Governor Uzodinma Trivializing Serious Issues Of State, Insulting Imolites

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State views with dismay the way the government of Senator Hope Uzodimma chose to trivialize the very serious roadmap issues of State importance that were raised by the Party in its June 3, 2021 press conference in Owerri, aimed at finding lasting solutions to the troubles in Imo State.

That is in relation to the poor responses by Governor Uzodinma’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon. Declan Mbadiwe Emelumba and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State to the candid observations, propositions and recommendations by the PDP. This Party views such bad conduct as unacceptable insults on the good people of Imo State.

Our Party vehemently condemns the situation where Governor Uzodinma, through his Commissioner for Information, would so carelessly order the arrest of the leadership of PDP in Imo State, for exercising their constitutional rights as the shadow government in the State. Contemplating such impossibility is one of the ways that the governor has trivialized such serious matter.

Imo PDP finds it rather too appalling that instead of proffering answers to the critical questions raised and considering implementing the recommendations made by the PDP for the restoration of peace and stability in the State, the Commissioner and Imo APC chose to trivialize very important matters by digressing from the points in issue, prevaricating and beating about the bush, in their separate statements and arguments.

Our Party is however, inspired and satisfied that well-meaning Imolites, including the highly revered religious leader, Archbishop Anthony Obinna, have aligned themselves directly and indirectly with the position of the PDP over the high insecurity and catastrophic sectoral devastation of the State. It is very significant that like Imo PDP, Archbishop Obinna, in his latest public address on the terrible situation of Imo State, also condemned the destabilization of the State by the military and other security operatives, disapproved of the carnage going on across the State and the mortuaries that are filled up with bodies of slain Imo youths. The Archbishop also called on Governor Uzodinma to convoke a broadbase safety and security summit in the State. We believe the governor heard him.

We, therefore, make bold to reiterate our earlier resolutions as presented in our Press Conference, urging Governor Uzodinma to accept responsibility over the collapse of security in the State, effectively demilitarize the State, sincerely investigate the extra-judicial killings in the State, and actually consider resigning, if the demands of his office have proved too overwhelming for him.

Ogubundu Nwadike,
State Publicity Secretary,
Imo PDP.
