A few months after he was installed as Imo governor, by a controversial, and still contested ruling of the Supreme Court, Senator Hope Uzodinma, on live TV, exposed how he became governor of Imo State, revealing that he used a method called the Ben Johnson Way, to secure his hold of the ticket of the All Progressives Congress APC in Imo State.
For some of you, who do not know Ben Johnson, he was a sprinter, who used drugs to enhance his performance, and was stripped of his medals afterwards for cheating.
Now recall also, that the ticket of the APC, which Hope Uzodinma claims he got through the Ben Johnson Way, is today being contested in the Supreme Court, by Chief Philip Umeadi SAN, who had approached the Supreme Court, to explain the ruling it handed down to Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, wherein, the Supreme Court declared Uche Nwosu the authentic candidate of the party.
Why the case is yet to be heard, raising a lot of eyebrows, and questions the integrity of the Apex Court as being the last line of justice for the common man.
As the next General Elections gradually draws closer, analysts have wondered at Uzodinma’s chances of securing a second tenure in office, with the prevailing security situation in the state, as well as the seeming rejection of his administration, by the people of Imo State, who groan under his management of the security crisis the state finds itself in.
Furthermore, comments by prominent religious leaders such as Prophet Elijah Ayodele, and Rev Father Ejike Mbaka against Uzodinma, all published on notable platforms such as Opera News, have cast serious doubts over Uzodinma’s ability to swing another victory in 2023, without deploying the infamous Ben Johnson Way, he openly admitted to using in 2019.
Uzodinma’s biggest political miscalculation, according to political analysts, was the invitation of the military to Orlu.
Uzodinma was the Senator that represented Orlu for eight years, and many pundits before now, had believed that his hope for reelection hinged with block votes from Orlu.
With the situation on ground, which had affected Orlu people more than any other people in the state, Uzodinma may have lost the home advantage as his failure, might come from the Homefront.
Still on the security situation in the state, Uzodinma may not still have a soft landing from other zones.
Owerri zone are still smarting from what was considered, robbery of their right, when Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, who was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, which is the nation’s electoral body, as the winner of the Elections.
Uzodinma would most likely not be getting any sympathy there.
The military blockades around Owerri, the capital Territory, which had led to loss of lives, haven’t scored Uzodinma any more winning points, but rather, taken away whatever Goodwill he would have gained from his initial efforts towards road construction.
Okigwe would not be sympathetic either, after what transpired in their Senatorial election, where Uzodinma installed a candidate of his choice, against the wishes of the people.
Political heavyweights like Senator Rochas Okorocha from Orlu, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume from Okigwe zone, as well as Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha from Owerri zone, all with widespread acceptance across the state, more than Uzodinma, would not be making it easy for Uzodinma to wiggle back into Douglas House on the votes of the people, giving room for the redeployment of the Ben Johnson Way, a method which the roots can be traced to an arrest at Seredib Hotel in Wuse II, Abuja in May of 2018.
Imo people are watching keenly, to see if there is any change from now till the General Elections, that could change their minds to back Uzodinma, or if he would be left without an option other than his self admitted Ben Johnson Way.
