Imo APC: Okorocha losing out to Uzodinma

There doesn’t appear to be a lot of options left for the former Govenror of Imo State, and Senator representing Orlu Zone, Senator Rochas Okorocha within the party structure, following the decision to dissolve all structures of the party in the state, and installing the State Working Committee led by Marcon Nlemigbo, to oversee the activities of the party.

With that decision, the Okorocha backed Daniel Nwafor faction, appears to have been sacked by the National Body of the party, leaving the party in the firm control of Senator Hope Uzodinma, who is in control of the Nlemigbo faction.

Despite moves by Okorocha and other powerful opposition forces within the party, to grab as much of the party structure as possible, when the reconstitution of structures starts, it have become clear that they may end up having little or no structure in the party, as Uzodinma would not allow them any form of control, that can jeopardize his chances of getting the party ticket in 2023.

A political analyst Okenna Ikegwuruka has this to say, “The whole legal battle in Okigwe had 2023 written all over it. If Araraume gets to the Senate, he automatically gets the party’s ticket in 2023 and Uzodinma knows this. With Araraume and Okorocha in the Senate, Uzodinma stands no chance. That’s why he he desperately fighting to make sure he cages Okorocha and Araraume now, before it is too late.

“He is ready to send anybody that will not be a threat to him to the Senate, as long as it’s not Araraume. Even his friend Athan Achonu might not be very ideal for him. Remember Athan had earlier shown interest in Govenroship in 2015 when he ran the PDP primaries against Ihedioha. Uzodinma can never trust anybody who could eye the APC Govenroship ticket in 2023 and right now, with the dissolution of the party structure, leaving everything in his hands, Uzodinma would make sure Okorocha and Araraume don’t get a party of the party. Give either of these main a foot and they’ll take a mile before you know it. Araraume came to PDP from outside in 2015 and came second in the primaries despite not having a structure in the party. He came to APGA and took over within weeks of joining. Uzodinma is aware of all this.

“For Okorocha, his best option right now is going to PDP or even returning to his party AA. Uzodinma will never let him return to the Senate under the APC flag. He should know that already.

“For Araraume, Uzodinma will rather let the PDP candidate or the weaker APGA candidate go to the Senate, than allowing Araraume there. Araraume may likely defeat Ibezim in court. The party may end up being disqualified due to the fact that on the day of election, both self or court acclaimed candidates were barred by court orders, and there was no stay of executions on those judgments.”

Araraume and Uzodinma had accused each other, of working with the PDP during the Okigwe Senate Bye-election.

Moves have commenced from Abuja to regain control of the party, by the Okorocha faction, but at the moment, the Imo APC remind firmly in the control of Senator Hope Uzodinma.
